For the third consecutive year, the Salim El-Hoss Bioethics and Professionalism Program (SHBPP) at the American University of Beirut Faculty of Medicine and Medical Center presented the SHBPP/AUB-FM Physician/Resident Humanism and Professionalism Award at the Resident’s Graduation Ceremony which took place on June 10, 2014 at the Assembly Hall. The Humanism and Professionalism Physician Award was granted to Dr. Ziad Salem from the Department of Internal Medicine, and the Humanism and Professionalism Resident Award was granted to Dr. Karim Masrouha from the Department of Surgery. Awards were presented to the recipients by Dr. Mohamed H. Sayegh, VP of Medical Affairs and the Raja N. Khuri Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dr. Thalia Arawi, Director of SHBPP.
This prestigious award, the first of its kind in the Arab World, honors qualities of compassionate care and selfless dedication to excellence. It is granted to the physician/resident who exemplifies the humane and professional aspects of medicine, who is exceptionally proficient, compassionate, kind, responsible and concerned for the welfare of patients, colleagues, staff and students; is a remarkable role model; is self-reflective about his/her own continuing development as physician; and reveals integrity and professionalism in all he/she does.
