The American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) is proud to add to its longstanding achievements of Joint Commission (JCI) accreditation and the College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine its latest: The awarding of AUBMC by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition ProgramŽ of its prestigious Magnet designation, a first in the Middle East. This honor was bestowed on AUBMC as a culmination of a six year trip which the nursing leadership at AUBMC and AUBMC at large has committed to and has now achieved. This latest honor further enhances our intense and continuing efforts at reviving the culture and tradition of quality and patient safety at our institution.
The patient and his/her care and safety remain our focus as we continue to deliver the quality of care expected of this one hundred year old academic medical center. The continuous growth, year-on-year, in the number of patients seeking care at our outpatient clinical care services, the emergency department and as inpatients attest to the valuable trust that people in the immediate vicinity of AUBMC and in Lebanon and the region place in AUBMC and its medical staff, nursing staff and the allied health professionals as well as the staff at large. It is a trust that we cherish as we continue to nurture it and further deepen its roots.
At the time of this writing, the works at AUBMC are nearing completion at the Abou Haidar Neuroscience Institute, the Basile Adult Cancer Center, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Women Health Center, and the Breast Cancer Center. It is also around this date that the decision regarding the Surgical Suites Project will be made after considering all available options. In the meantime, efforts are underway to conceptualize the new wing of AUBMC with a view to have it operational by the year 2020 as was projected in the Master Plan.
As we look down the road, we discern a period of growth and continuing demand on our services. We are committed to meet this challenge and improve on our performance keeping in sight, at all times, the two pillars of patients care: quality and safety, as well as the continued support of our community.
