About Us
Mission The mission of the Social Services Department at AUBMC is to help patients and their families cope and adjust to social, psychological and economic problems resulting from illness.
Social Worker's Role
- Socio Economic Evaluation
Assess the need for help or referral to available health facilities
- Counseling
Provide patients and families with the ability to make appropriate decisions concerning illness in times of crisis or other personal problems; to cope and manage any additional stress to patients and/or families.
- Discharge Planning
Help patients and families develop a plan for post-hospital care, whether it is at home or within the community In addition, the department serves as a link between the patient, different Medical Center departments and other community facilities to supply, secure and facilitate access to such services and resources.
It also provides field work training and supervision to social work students and orientation sessions to medical and nursing students.
The department relies mainly on donations from the Women's Auxiliary of AUBMC.
