Shared Governance

Page Content
The Nursing Department has adopted a participative management style and a shared decision making, ensuring that nurses at all levels and settings are involved in shared governance councils.

Nurses have a voice in all aspects of their practice.

Why do we Need Shared Governance?

  1. Enhance standards of care and practice
  2. Develop and revise policies and procedures
  3. Utilize resources
  4. Utilize research and evidence-based practice
  5. Apply quality/performance improvement for excellent patient care and optimal outcomes.

The three core principles of Shared Governance are the following:

  • Autonomy: the ability to actively make decisions that govern patient care.
  • Responsibility: the scope or areas of practice where decisions can be made.
  • Accountability: the conscious undertaking of outcomes generated by decision-making.
