The agreement signed on October 28, 2013 in Erbil, was
a culmination of several months of negotiations between the Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister of Kurdistan Regional Government, Dr. Nisar Talabany, the Ministry of Health of Kurdistan, and the External Medical Affairs (EMA) Office of AUB FM and AUBMC.
As laid out in the agreement, AUBMC will receive a considerable number of patients from Kurdistan for treatment.

Treatment will cover various medical conditions including: adult and pediatric cardiology, bone marrow transplant, ophthalmology, liver transplant, ENT and neurology. In addition, AUBMC will provide training services to Kurdish medical and paramedical staff to ensure proper follow up on patients after they have returned to their home country. This training will also aid the Kurdistan Region in building its own human resource capacity to ensure improved quality care to its citizens.

The signing took place at the Ministry of Health of Erbil by the Minister of Health of Kurdistan and in the presence of the Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister.
