Dear members of the community,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Said Saghieh as chief medical officer of the Keserwan Medical Center (KMC) as of October 14, 2023.

This appointment was made by the board of directors of KMC upon recommendation of Dr. Raymond Sawaya, vice president for medical affairs and Raja N. Khuri Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Joseph Otayek, AUBMC director and general manager of KMC.

As chief medical officer, Dr. Saghieh will be responsible for patient care, clinical outcomes, and the implementation and oversight of the quality assessment and performance improvement program. He will serve as a member of the executive management team of KMC to implement strategies that enhance patient care and improve the medical practice. He will also work closely with medical professionals to identify recurring health trends and determine new equipment or treatment methods to include at KMC.

Dr. Saghieh will organize and coordinate physician services and services provided by other professionals as they relate to patient care at KMC, as well as participate in the process to ensure the appropriateness and quality of medical care and medically-related care. His duties as chief medical officer include overseeing medical staff recruitment, implementing regulations, and monitoring budgets, thus ensuring efficient facility operations and high-quality patient care.

Dr. Saghieh earned his MD degree from Saint Joseph University in 1992 and completed his residency training in orthopedic surgery at the American University of Beirut Faculty of Medicine and Medical Center (1993-99). Following a year of clinical fellowship in orthopedic oncology at MD Anderson Cancer Center (1999-2000), Said undertook an additional clinical fellowship in limb lengthening and reconstruction at both the Maryland Center for Limb Lengthening and the International Center for Limb Lengthening at Sinai Hospital, Maryland (2000-01). Dr. Saghieh joined AUB as an instructor in 2002, and was promoted to assistant professor (2004), associate professor (2011), and full professor of clinical surgery in 2022. He is certified by the American College of Surgeons (2009), and by the Arab Board of Health Specialties (2003). He currently serves as the elected president of the Medical Committee of Physicians for AUBMC.

Said needs no introduction to the AUB community. He is a respected orthopedic surgeon, a fine scholar, a trouble-shooter with a generous and widely admired leadership approach, one who enjoys a strong national and international reputation in the field. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Saghieh on his new role and thanking him for taking on these new responsibilities with our full support.

Best regards,

Fadlo R. Khuri, MD
President
