The Department of Psychiatry offers in-depth forensic mental health services in the criminal and civil law domains. We collaborate with judges and attorneys in the justice system to increase understanding of the intersection between mental health and the law and to help improve outcomes.

We provide consultations and evaluations on the following matters:
• Criminal responsibility (sanity)
• Mitigation
• Violence risk assessment
• Suicide risk assessment
• Malingering
• Fitness for duty
• Disability
• Guardianship
• Divorce
• Malpractice

We accept referrals by judges, attorneys, hospitals, schools, employers, insurance companies, licensing/ regulatory boards and organizations.
