It is a subspecialty of Psychiatry that serves the mental health of older adults.

​

A geriatric Psychiatrist specializes in the evaluation and management of neurocognitive disorders/dementias and their behavioral disturbances, delirium, late-life mood disorders, anxiety disorders, psychoses, and other serious late-life mental disorders requiring hospitalization.

Our Services

  • Evaluation and management of memory disorders/neurocognitive disorders/dementias.
  • Evaluation and management of late-life depression, anxiety disorders and late-life psychoses.
  • Legal consultation for capacity and guardianship determinations.
  • Hospitalization of older adults on the Psychiatric Inpatient Unit (PIU) for management of suicidal attempts, severe depression, catatonia, and behavioral disturbances in dementias.
  • Providing electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) on inpatient and outpatient basis.
  • Providing workshops and educational sessions for families and caregivers.

Our Geropsych Team

We have an academic medical practice dedicated to providing state-of-the-art care for older adults with late-life mental disorders, while training future experts in the fields of nursing, psychology, psychiatry, and social work. We collaborate closely with other specialties such as neurology, geriatric medicine, nutrition department, physical therapy etc. We foster a culture of science and research, as we conduct several studies related to the field.
