Psychiatry Partial Hospitalization Program

Page Content

The AUBMC Psychiatry Partial Hospitalization Program (PPHP) is an intensive treatment program that was established in 2018 to serve individuals with mental disorders particularly severe depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, and patients experiencing suicidal thoughts. PPHP can be helpful as an intervention for individuals who require more intensive care than they can receive in an outpatient setting, or as a transition for individuals being discharged from an inpatient hospitalization.

PPHP operates Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 2:30pm. Depending on the person's needs, the team may recommend that the individual attends 3 days per week or 5 days per week. Commitment to the program varies for each person from 2 to 8 weeks.

Our multidisciplinary team consists of an attending psychiatrist, clinical psychologists, senior social worker/family intervention therapist, art therapist, occupational therapist, and nurses. While in PPHP, the attending psychiatrist meets individually with each patient to evaluate medications and the progress being achieved. Also, a clinical psychologist meets with each person one-to-one for psychotherapeutic input. Family meetings are scheduled during the program when deemed appropriate.

In addition, individuals take part in various groups that help dealing with relationships, communication issues, problems in daily living, coping with stress, understanding mental illness, and managing emotions effectively.

• Psychoeducation on Living with a Mental Disorder
• Skills Building
• Mindfulness
• Emotional Regulation Skills
• Communication Skills
• Occupational Therapy
• Support Group
• Art Therapy
• Healthy Habits

We aim to provide a personalized intervention to help individuals develop more effective coping skills and to help them improve the overall quality of their life. We encourage all individuals to collaborate with the treatment team in setting therapeutic and individualized treatment goals.
